7 WAY TO STAY SAFE ON INSTAGRAM

kamalking.in– Instagram is now one of the most popular social media platforms in the world. Not only for sharing photos and videos, this Facebook-owned service also has Reels, Stories, and Instagram TV features.

With more and more users, Instagram is now also a target for scam0mers . Instagram also presents various features that can be used to secure user accounts.

1. Enable Two-Factor Authentication

If you’re worried about someone hacking your Instagram account and uploading something on IG without your consent, you can avoid this by enabling two-factor authentication (2FA).

With 2FA, to log into Instagram, one has to enter another key after entering the password. So even though they can break into your IG password , the hacker can’t get into your Instagram without a second authentication.

How to set it up is easy, go to Profile then select the three line icon, then go to Settings > Security > Two-Factor Authentication > Get Started.

Here, users can set up 2FA via SMS or an independent authentication app like Google Authenticator.

2. Check Official Email Is Fake

To help users distinguish fake emails and official emails from Instagram, some time ago Instagram launched the “Emails from Instagram” tab .

This feature allows users to check whether the incoming email is from Instagram or from other parties claiming to be Instagram.

This feature can be found in Settings > Security > Emails from Instagram. The “Security” tab will also display a list of emails sent by Instagram to users in the last 14 days, regarding the security of the user’s account and the login location .

The second tab named ” other ” will show the emails Instagram sent during the same period.

3. Check Login Activity

Instagram users can be wary of hackers by going to Settings > Login Activity on the desktop.

This page will display a list of locations from which your account is logged in . Users can also verify their current location and view previous login activity .

If the location is not recognized, it’s a good idea for the user to log out of the device and change their Instagram password .

4. Set Account to Private

When you upload something to Instagram, anyone on the platform can see the uploaded video or photo. If you only want to interact with people you know, you can set your account to a private setting.

You do this by going to Settings > Privacy > Account Privacy and activating the account to Private settings.

When the account becomes Private, the user must approve if there is a request for new followers . That way, not everyone can see the videos or photos you upload.

5. Disable Activity Status

Instagram has a feature that lets people see when you last used the app. You do this by looking at the green dot in the DM.

Users can disable it by going to Settings > Privacy > Activity Status and selecting to disable it.

7. Control Comments and Stories

Instagram can disable comments on certain posts. The trick is to tap on the three-dot menu on your upload, and tap Turn Off Commenting.

More options are in Settings > Privacy > Comments. Where you can block specific accounts and activate content filters to hide certain words.

Users can turn off comments on Stories. The trick is to go to Settings > Privacy > Story. Users can hide your stories from certain accounts, disable comments, and specify that other users cannot share these stories
